King Charles III was crowned on May 6. The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey in London. Kings and queens have been getting crowned there for a thousand years.

It was the first British coronation since 1953. That’s when King Charles’ mother became our queen.

King in waiting – and waiting, and waiting

Queen Elizabeth was just 25 when she was crowned. She reigned for 70 years. When she died last year, her oldest son inherited her throne.

King Charles is 74. That’s past the age when most people retire!
