On March 23, the prime minister asked Governor General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament and call a federal election. Canada goes to the polls on April 28.

Decisions, decisions

Canada is divided into 343 ridings. Each riding elects a Member of Parliament (MP) to represent them in the House of Commons.

Canada has five main parties. The party with the most MPs elected forms the government. The leader of the winning party, who is also an MP, becomes prime minister.
